Open a new file, 400 pixels wide by 150 high, 16 million colors, with a white background. Select as your foreground color a grayish brown, such as RGB 89,79,43. Place some text. A nice blocky looking font worksbest. Here I've used Arial Black, 72 point.
Deselect the lettering temporarily by pressing {Shift N}. Go tothe windows menu and choose window:Duplicate. This will create an exactcopy of our image for later use. For now, reduce that image and returnto the original window. Go to the Edit menu and undo the deselect. Thetext should again be highlighted. Next we use the pool shadows filter fromFilter Factory Gallery A. Apply the filter without changing any of thesettings
Now we begin to create the 3-D effect. Copy the current image tothe clipboard and then set your background color to white. Paste the imageback into the file as a transparent selection. Overlap it with the originaltext, but move it down one or two pixels, and to the left by the same amount.Repeat this process a few times, each time moving down and to the left. The image below was made up of five layers
Now we go back to that duplicate file we made. First we have tochange the text color. Set your foreground color to RGB 252, 180, 46. Usingyour Flood Fill tool with tolerance set to 70, color each letter
Next, choose the Select tool, and click on each letter, holdingdown the shift key. Your text should now be highlighted. Again apply thepool shadow, using the same settings as before.
Finally, copy the selection to the clipboard and paste it into theoriginal window as a transparent selection, again moving the image downand to the left . Save as a transparent GIF.
